| Les Wald is chairman of the OIPA’s newly-formed Oilfield Services Committee and is an integral part of the Oilfield Services Fundraising Auction, the Annual Meeting event that is the association’s single largest fundraising venture. This month, he answers our “20 Questions.”

Who’s your favorite Oklahoman, living or dead, real or fictional? Paul Harvey was an American radio broadcaster for the ABC Radio Networks. Harvey attended Tulsa Central High School where a teacher was “impressed by his voice.” On her recommendation, he started working at KVOO at age 14. I enjoyed listening to his broadcasts News and Comment as well as “The Rest of the Story” segments. His listening audience was estimated, at its peak, at 24 million people a week.
What’s the best meal you’ve eaten in Oklahoma? Can you top Isle of Capri in Krebs?
In one sentence, what do you actually do all day in your job? I make it a practice to be the first one in the office every morning, no later than 7 a.m. and the last one to leave. But sometimes I wonder what I actually accomplished during the day.
What’s the last movie you saw at the theater? The Jonas Brothers Movie with my 10 year old niece who lives with my wife, Pam, and I. WOW! What a 3D Experience!
Have you ever met anyone famous? Roy Clark, my father played the drums in his band.
What’s your drink? Coffee, black
What was your first car? A 1973 Black Monte Carlo with bucket seats.
How often do you prepare your own meals? I like to cook, so I try to prepare a meal for the family at least once a week!
What’s your favorite medicine? Aleve helps all my aches and pains.
What was your favorite musical group when you were in junior high? The Eagles
What’s hanging on your office wall? My favorite is a plaque that reads – In Africa, every morning a gazelle wakes up knowing that it must outrun the fastest lion if it wants to stay alive.Every morning a lion wakes up knowing that it must run faster than the slowest gazelle or it will starve to death. It makes no difference whether you are a lion or gazelle; when the sun comes up, you had better start running. This has been my motto for the last 35 years.

Where do you go to be alone? The Ranch, we have a small ranch northwest of Geary with 2.5 miles of river front property running along side the South Canadian River. OR my new favorite past time is scuba diving. My cell phone does not work in the water.
What makes someone an Oklahoman? To me an Oklahoman is someone that takes pride in our great state and will stand up for their spiritual beliefs.
