Another day, another attack

August 11, 2009
The western U.S. has become a breeding ground for opposition to the oil and natural gas industry, and the newest attack comes on film. The documentary Split Estate focuses on the conflicts between landowners and producers, focusing its attention on the Piceance and San Juan Basins. Marc Smith, executive director of the Independent Petroleum Association of Mountain States, attended a screening during the Docuweek Film Festival and was one of two people in the theater. Smith called the film a dramatization of the NRDC “Drilling Down” report, which argues for tougher regulation of the oil and gas industry Watch the trailer. Get mad.
